Leeds United suffer “massive blow” before Man Utd clash

Leeds United boss Marcelo Bielsa could be without one of his star players for this weekend’s Premier League clash with arch-rivals Manchester United…

What’s the latest?

Versatile midfielder Stuart Dallas was forced off just nine minutes into the Whites’ 3-0 defeat to Everton at Goodison Park on Saturday and according to LeedsLive journalist Beren Cross, there is a “degree of severity” about the injury.

Given the fact that he was withdrawn so early on, it seems unlikely that he will be fit to feature on Sunday afternoon. And that, according to former goalkeeper Paul Robinson, is a massive blow to the Argentine and the squad.

Will Stuart Dallas be a big miss for Leeds?

“It’s a massive blow – a huge blow,” he claimed to MOT Leeds News.

“He’s been Mr Consistent for Leeds for a number of seasons now. They haven’t got that many leaders on the field but he’s one of them. He’s outstanding wherever he plays and he’s going to be a massive miss.”

Gutting blow

The 30-year-old joins a long list of absentees at Thorp Arch, with the likes of last season’s top goalscorer Patrick Bamford, skipper Liam Cooper and Kalvin Phillips all on the treatment table.

Dallas is capable of playing in a multitude of midfield roles, as well as at full-back on both sides of the defence, making him a hugely valuable asset to Bielsa, who has started him in pretty much every game in the past 18 months.

Indeed, the last time the Northern Irishman failed to start a league game was in July 2020, back in the Championship and just as Cross says, he’s “been a cornerstone of this side.”

Leeds were beaten by Spurs in their first game of 2021 but what was the scoreline?

His absence would, therefore, be a gutting, gutting blow to anyone associated with Leeds. Bielsa will surely be gutted to not have his long-standing talisman, whilst the Whites’ faithful must be worried heading into such a big encounter.

The Yorkshire giants are by no means safe from a relegation scrap and now welcome one of their biggest rivals to Elland Road, just a week after being thrashed by a struggling Everton side.

Dallas is certainly going to be a massive blow, should he be missing this weekend.
