Leeds United will still be without Patrick Bamford this weekend after he suffered yet another injury setback...

What's the latest?

Marcelo Bielsa has been without his star striker for the bulk of the 2021/22 campaign and now the head coach has revealed a new blow ahead of their Premier League clash with Newcastle United this afternoon.

"[Adam] Forshaw and [Junior] Firpo have muscular injuries and Bamford has a new injury," he told reporters (via Sky Sports). "He has overcome his muscular issues, but now he has an issue at the bottom of his foot."

The 28-year-old forward has missed 16 of their last 17 league games with ankle and hamstring problems. His one 22-minute cameo (against Brentford) saw him bag his second goal of the season but ultimately he's only played six top-flight matches since the start of the 2021/22 season.

Gutting setback

This will come as a frustrating and gutting blow to Bielsa as he is still missing one of his most crucial players at a key point in the season.

Last term, Bamford was United's top goalscorer as they recorded a ninth-place finish - as per WhoScored, the £18m-rated star scored 17 goals in 37 appearances and led the team for shots (2.8) per game.

In his absence, the Argentinian head coach has tried and tested a number of players up front, largely settling for one of Daniel James or Jack Harrison, who are wingers by trade. This has failed to be much of a success.

It has meant that Raphinha has emerged as a standout player for Bielsa as he leads the way for goals scored (eight), shots (3.1 per game), key passes (2.1 per game) and dribbles (2.3 per game), also via WhoScored.

Once dubbed an "exceptional player" by Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, Bamford is a very important player for Leeds and their success, so to not have him back yet is surely going to leave Bielsa a little worried heading into kick-off this afternoon.

AND in other news, Imagine him & Phillips: Leeds could seal dream Bielsa signing in £16.2m-rated "phenom"...
