Joe Wainman, host of a Leeds YouTube channel, would have liked Newcastle goalkeeper Freddie Woodman at Elland Road.

The 24-year-old shot stopper has impressed during his loan spells with Swansea City over the last couple of seasons, making 95 appearances in all competitions and keeping 34 clean sheets in the process.

Leeds were reportedly interested in Woodman, but the goalkeeper turned down a move to Elland Road earlier this month according to Football Insider, citing he didn't want to be the back-up goalkeeper all season.

Woodman then saw a loan move to Bournemouth halted after Newcastle goalkeeper Martin Dubravka suffered a foot injury, and so it looks like Woodman will now stay at St James’ Park this summer.

Despite this, Joe Wainman told Football FanCast: “Yeah I would have liked Freddie Woodman, I think he was top of the list, a bid was made and then he was going to join Bournemouth on loan and then I think Dubravka got injured which meant he had to stay at Newcastle.”

Despite a move away from St James’ Park not happening, it appears that Woodman is in line to start the new Premier League season as the Magpies number one according to Chronicle Live, with manager Steve Bruce saying post match against Rotherham: “I understand and we all agree that with Freddie, it’s best to keep playing him because he’s played for two years.”
