Speaking exclusively to FootballFanCast, Rob Lee has suggested Leeds United "desperately" tried to sign Ben White in the summer transfer window.

White of course spent the entirety of the 2019/2020 campaign on loan at Elland Road, becoming a cornerstone of Marcelo Bielsa's side as they clinched promotion back to the Premier League almost two decades away.

The 23-year-old, rather remarkably, didn't miss a single minute of action in the Championship, and it was no surprise that reports claimed Leeds were keen on bringing him back.

Parent club Brighton however held firm in their desire to keep him, and former Newcastle ace, Lee, has delivered his verdict on the whole ordeal and how things have panned out for the Whites.

He said: "The way they play, they let goals in. Ben White, I think they could have signed him from Brighton. I think he's a fantastic young player. They were desperately trying to sign him.

"It's the Premier League, and you're playing against the best players in the world here, so you're going to let goals in. But as long as you can score them, that's the main thing.

"I've always said, you can set yourself up defensively well, but if you don't score a goal, you can't win the game. Teams that you find down the bottom, and the teams that struggle, are the ones that haven't got a goal-scorer. And (Patrick) Bamford is proving at the moment he can score goals".

After missing out on the £13.5m-rated White, Leeds of course turned their attentions to Robin Koch, and the German has had his difficulties early on in his career at Elland Road, and it was also confirmed that he will be out for the next three months with surgery.

White on the other hand has been a regular for Graham Potter's Seagulls, featuring in every single Premier League game this season. Given how important he was to them last season, Leeds must surely look on with a bit of regret that they didn't manage to prise him away on a permanent deal in the summer.
