Leeds United seem to be closing in on another January transfer...

What’s the word?

That's according to journalist Ben Jacobs, who answered the pressing questions of many fans during a Q&A session last night.

When one fan in particular asked about how the Weston McKennie deal was progressing, he replied:

"Very possible. Both clubs continue advanced talks. He would be excellent alongside Tyler Adams. Leeds just have to hope another club doesn't hijack. But right now they are making progress and McKennie is happy to join."

With Juventus having commanded a €35m (£31m) fee earlier in the window, it seems director of football Victor Orta has finally negotiated an agreeable deal for both parties.

He'd be excellent alongside Adams

In what would finally mark the acquisition of a much sought-after midfielder, the Yorkshire outfit can finally put to bed the ongoing saga with Azzedine Ounahi by adding yet another American to the squad.

He joins an ever-growing contingent already consisting of Brenden Aaronson and Tyler Adams, the latter of which Jacobs clearly expects McKennie to fuse well with.

Having played together at the international level, these midfield enforcers could complement one another perfectly, with a blend of defensive rigidity offering the foundation for an attacking presence to shine.

The former RB Leipzig stopper has shone since his summer move to Elland Road, with his work rate and defensive input imperative in the all-action play style of Jesse Marsch.

He has recorded 4.2 tackles and 1.4 interceptions per 90, and as such ranks in the top 4% for the former stat when compared to other midfielders across Europe.

Combining this with McKennie's more brutish and offensive play style could be imperative in adding to their already impressive 26 Premier League goals this season.

He ranks in the top 10% for progressive passes received and the top 14% for non-penalty goals, suggesting that should Adams break up the play and look for his compatriot, he then has the quality to turn and perhaps convert that into real chances.

That's not to suggest that the 24-year-old shirks his defensive duties, as his 2.5 duels won per game emphasises. He has more than earned his title of being a "rock", as dubbed by Andrea Pirlo.

To have bolstered in defence and attack already in January, this final addition could be the final piece in Marsch's puzzle to ensure safety.
