Leeds: Ball drops Kent claim

Michael Ball has dropped an update on Leeds and their pursuit of Rangers attacker Ryan Kent…

What’s the talk?

Formers Rangers defender Michael Ball has claimed that Leeds are the main suitors for Ryan Kent this summer, with just under a month to go before the window shuts.

He told Transfer Tavern:

“I think Leeds are the main suitors right now for Ryan Kent.

“Since he came to the club, it was quite a surprise the amount of money Rangers paid for Ryan, but he’s paid that back in an abundance and the fans really like him.”

The Lillywhites have a long-standing interest in Kent and it remains to be seen whether or not they will firm that up with an offer in the coming weeks.

Fans will be buzzing

Leeds fans will be buzzing by this update as it seems to suggest that there is still a possibility of the attacker being at Elland Road come to the end of the month.

The English winger could be a strong addition to Marcelo Bielsa’s team if he can carry on his form from Rangers. Although, it is now down to Victor Orta to ensure that he can get a deal over the line, with Rangers’ demands unknown at this moment in time.

Ex-Rangers man Kris Boyd once hailed Kent as phenomenal and claimed the ball sticks to his boots. He said:

“There’s Ryan Kent who is phenomenal – he gets you off your seat. His numbers have increased season after season. Even if the team are not at the level we saw at the start of the campaign, he is still a threat. He is so comfortable with the ball – it is like has superglue in his boots!”

His statistics in the Scottish Premiership back up the high praise from Boyd. He managed eight goals and seven assists whilst playing for Rangers last season, averaging a sublime WhoScored rating of 7.41. In the Europa League, he scored two and assisted two in eight starts, showing that he is also capable of providing quality in Europe.

Although it is difficult to judge whether or not he could directly translate that form to the Premier League, it suggests that he has the potential to impress in England if he makes the switch to Yorkshire.

He has been able to stand out in Scotland and Leeds could offer him the opportunity to prove he can do it in his home country at the top level.
