An update has emerged on Leeds United transfer target Raul de Tomas regarding the fee that his current club wants for his services.
According to Fichajes, Espanyol are looking for a fee in the region of £38m (€45m) for the 27-year-old ahead of the January window.
The report claims that fellow Premier League clubs Tottenham and West Ham are also keeping tabs on the centre-forward.
Victor Orta must secure a deal to sign de Tomas in January as he could land Marcelo Bielsa a new goalscoring sensation. The forward has been in fantastic form for Espanyol in the past 18 months and has the potential to come to England and become a consistent scorer for Leeds.
One prolific forward that Leeds fans are sure to remember is Mark Viduka. The Australian was sublime for the club in his day and scored 71 goals in 165 games whilst at Elland Road. In his four Premier League campaigns for the Whites, Viduka scored 11 goals twice, 17 goals and 20 goals as he proved himself to be a reliable finisher at the top level.
De Tomas could come in and have a similar impact for Bielsa. Whilst he was in the Real Madrid academy setup, the attacker provided a self-assessment of his qualities to the club’s official website, saying: “I am a pacey, competitive and technically gifted goal-scorer.”
The Spaniard has six goals and two assists in 11 La Liga appearances this season, which leaves him well on course to hit over double figures this season. This comes after he fired Espanyol to promotion with 23 goals in 37 games in the Segunda Division last term, scoring 34 goals in 64 games in all competitions for the club overall.
He also scored 38 goals in 66 games for Rayo Vallecano earlier in his career, which adds to the theory that he could come in at Leeds and be a goalscoring sensation. De Tomas has proven that he can score goals at a superb rate in Spain, so Orta must take the plunge and bring him to England in January to see if he can become the new Viduka at Elland Road in the Premier League, as his statistics suggest that he could.
