Leeds still “trying” to land Hwang Hee-Chan

An update has emerged on Leeds United and their interest in Hwang Hee-Chan on deadline day of the summer transfer window.

What’s the talk?

Sky Sports journalist Kaveh Solhekol has revealed, live on air, that the Whites are “trying” to set up a deal to sign the attacker from Wolves, as Victor Orta looks to improve Jesse Marsch’s squad before the clock strikes 11.

However, it remains to be seen how receptive to a move their Premier League rivals would be and how much money it would take to sign him if they are willing to sanction a transfer in the final hours of the window.

This comes off the back of Bamba Dieng ditching a trip to Elland Road to join the Yorkshire-based side in order to pursue a switch elsewhere.

Forget about Dieng

It is time to forget about Dieng as Hwang could be a safer and more solid signing for the Whites to make on deadline day.

The Marseille striker has only played 30 league matches in his senior career, scoring seven goals, and has not played outside of Ligue 1.

It would, therefore, have been a huge risk to bring him in as it is impossible to tell how he would have dealt with the Premier League.

Hwang, meanwhile, scored five goals and set up one in 20 starts in the English top-flight for Wolves last season. This shows that he knows how to perform in England and has proven that he can score goals, albeit not prolifically, at a similar rate to Dieng in France.

He is currently the club-record signing...

He would, therefore, be less of a risk than the Marseille man and a solid addition to Marsch’s squad as the American coach would know that a reliable performer is coming through the door.

The £19k-per-week dynamo, who was once dubbed an “exciting talent” by journalist Nathan Judah, has scored 68 goals and assisted 45 in his club career and enjoyed a phenomenal last season with Salzburg in 2019/20.

He racked up 11 goals and 12 assists in 27 Bundesliga games in Austria, which shows that he has the potential to make a big impact at the top end of the pitch if he can find his best form.
