Leeds United have only made two signings during the summer transfer window but it doesn't appear as if they are done just yet...

What's the word?

According to Tuttomercatoweb, the Yorkshire giants are 'at the window' to sign Benfica midfielder Florentino Luis this summer but they face competition from fellow Premier League newcomers Fulham.

Earlier in the week, O Jogo (via Sport Witness) claimed that club president Luis Filipe Vieira believes he is worth in excess of €40m (£37m) despite being protected by a €120m (£110m) release clause.

The Cottagers have failed with two bids, so the door could open for Victor Orta to swoop in.

Midfield powerhouse

And move in he must as the 21-year-old is one of the most promising midfielders in Europe at the minute.

Already an illustrious winner at youth level internationally with two European Championships, Luis has also won a Portuguese league title since breaking into the first-team setup.

In 27 appearances, the powerhouse has averaged 3.8 tackles, 2.9 interceptions and a near 90% passing accuracy rate, via WhoScored. He certainly seems to be in the Kalvin Phillips mould rather than Pablo Hernandez.

The young Portuguese sensation has been likened to N'Golo Kante and is often nicknamed the 'Octopus' due to the way he pops up everywhere and mops up any counter-attack.

Whilst former youth coach Joao Tralhao believes "defensively he is a top, top class player" who can "understand [the game] very well, also adding:

"A player who can defend like anyone is excellent, his perception of his defensive role is amazing, absolutely amazing, his perception of the positioning, the timing is completely exceptional, and attacking he can play, he can build, he can do everything the coach wants.”

Bielsa may not need a new anchorman anytime soon, but he shouldn't pass up an opportunity to clinch a player who holds such great potential. Luis could really thrive under the Argentine's stewardship.
