Leeds could be set for an exciting summer transfer window after a major claim made by a finance guru.
Marcelo Bielsa’s side splashed the cash last summer to bring in the likes of Diego Llorente and Rodrigo, and according to Football Insider’s Kieran Maguire, the Premier League club are all set up for another potential spending spree.
He said: “I think they’ve got a bit of room to stretch their wage structure in the summer and beyond. If you’re looking for someone to benchmark them against, I guess it would be someone like West Ham.
“They paid £127m in wages, so Leeds have got the potential to add another £40m or £50m on the wage bill. Southampton pay £113m, Brighton at £103m. So they are going to go beyond £100m.
“There is certainly scope for further investment in wages and the club can still be making money and be financially viable.”
Make no mistake about it, Maguire’s claim about how Leeds have got the power to spend this summer and still remain “financially viable” is exciting news for Bielsa and the club’s fans.
An impressive return to the Premier League has seen the Whites break into the top ten with just seven games remaining, and another successful transfer window in the summer would surely set them up for a real charge next season.
While Bielsa continues to prove his coaching abilities are second-to-none – you only have to look at Leeds’ incredible triumph at the Etihad against Manchester City at the weekend to see that – new, marquee signings are what will help the Whites take that next step in the top-flight.
So, having that financial security of knowing they can go out and spend big money and bring in the right players, will be music to the ears of everyone connected with the club.
