Leeds star Kalvin Phillips eyed by Man Utd

Leeds United talisman Kalvin Phillips is wanted in an audacious summer swoop by Manchester United…

What’s the story?

According to The Times just last month, fellow Premier League duo West Ham and Aston Villa are both interested in signing him in the upcoming summer transfer window, but Jesse Marsch’s side are keen to stave off those attempts.

It now appears that their bitter rivals have joined the race to lure the 26-year-old away from Elland Road.

According to Manchester Evening News, the Red Devils are working on a deal to sign Phillips, with the midfielder reportedly “aligned with interim United manager Ralf Rangnick’s preference for targeting hungry players seeking a progressive career move”.

Unforgivable from Leeds

Given the kind of connection that Phillips has with Leeds, and vice versa, selling him for whatever price would be incredibly difficult to swallow for Whites fans.

But for the club to accept a potential bid from their bitter rivals in Man United? Now that would be unforgivable.

Had the club perhaps not arrested their recent slump in form and headed towards relegation back to the Championship, then perhaps selling Phillips may have been somewhat understandable, even if it were to the Red Devils.

However, given how Marsch and his team have turned things around, picking up seven points from their past three Premier League games, another season of top-flight football is very much on the cards.

Can you beat this impossible Leeds quiz!?

The likes of Andrea Radrizzani and Victor Orta will surely be looking for ways to kick on next season, and Phillips will no doubt figure centrally in their plans, even more so given the amount of time he has missed this season.

Aside from what he means to the club and the fan base as a whole, Phillips has become one of the best midfielders in the Premier League. Last season when he was playing week in, week out, his 2.6 tackles per game ranked him in the top 15 players among the entire division, while his 1.6 interceptions per match were also good enough to make the top 20.

Radrizzani would be heading for an unforgivable disaster which would leave Leeds fans seething if Phillips were allowed to make the switch to Old Trafford this summer.
