Phil Hay has dropped an update on the future of Leeds United winger Raphinha.

What's the latest?

In a recent post on Twitter, The Athletic journalist revealed that, following months of speculation surrounding the 25-year-old's potential switch to Barcelona this summer, sources are now claiming that there is growing confidence from both Leeds and the LaLiga side that a €72m (£61m) agreement can be reached for transfer of the Brazil international.

In his tweet, Hay said: "Growing confidence on all sides that Leeds United and Barcelona are heading for an agreement over Raphinha. Sources say not finalised yet but progress [was] made in discussions over the weekend."

Supporters will be buzzing

While it is undeniable that waving goodbye to a player of Raphinha's undoubted ability will come as a gutting blow to many of the Elland Road faithful, Hay's claim that Barcelona finally look to be close to meeting the Whites' asking price for the winger is nevertheless sure to have left supporters buzzing.

Indeed, the 25-year-old's move to Spain will see the club receive a record-breaking fee, something which will, presumably, be put towards further additions to Jesse Marsch's first-team squad this summer - with Victor Orta being linked with a £32m move for Club Brugge KV forward Charles De Ketelaere, a £22m swoop for US Sassuolo winger Hamed Junior Traore and £35m deal for PSV Eindhoven attacker Cody Gakpo.

Furthermore, with the likes of Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur and - most prominently - Chelsea all reported to have been extremely interested in signing the former Stade Rennais starlet this summer, the fact that Raphinha now looks as if he will not be lining up against Leeds in the Premier League next season is sure to be an extremely relieving thought for many Leeds supporters.

As such, while the loss of the Brazilian sensation will leave a huge void for Leeds to fill ahead of the upcoming campaign, his £61m switch to Spain very much looks to be the best possible outcome for everyone involved with the Whites.
