Leeds: Victor Orta interested in Armando Broja deal

Leeds United are interested in a deal to bring Armando Broja to Elland Road this summer.

What’s the talk?

That’s according to a report by 90min, who claim that Victor Orta is keeping a very close eye on the situation of the Chelsea centre-forward ahead of making a potential move in the coming weeks – with the Blues reported to be willing to part with the 20-year-old for a figure in the region of £30m.

The report goes on to state that West Ham United, Everton, Newcastle United and Southampton are also in the race for the Albania international’s signature this summer, with the latter now believed to have launched an official bid for the player who spent last season on loan at St. Mary’s.

Imagine him & De Ketelaere

Considering just how much potential Broja undoubtedly possesses, it is easy to see why Orta would be interested in a deal to bring the striker to Elland Road ahead of Leeds’ 2022/23 campaign.

Indeed, the £19.8m-rated talent highly impressed over his 32 Premier League appearances for Southampton last season, scoring six goals, registering one assist and creating two big chances for his teammates, as well as taking an average of 1.4 shots – 0.7 of which hit the target – and completing 1.0 dribble per game.

Furthermore, according to FBref data, the £8.5k-per-week attacker also ranks in the top 19% of forwards in Europe’s big five leagues and European competitions for dribbles completed per 90, in addition to the top 31% for progressive carries, the top 14% for aeriel duels won, the top 18% for interceptions, the top 24% for blocks and the top 38% for pressures over the last 365 days.

As such, with the player who Sergio Porrini dubbed “devastating” quite clearly being extremely deadly in the final third, fantastic with the ball at his feet and tireless in his efforts to help his team out defensively, it is evident that Broja would be something of a perfect fit for Jesse Marsch’s squad.

What month did Marcelo Bielsa's tenure come to an unfortunate end?

And, with the Whites also being linked with a move for the equally exciting Charles De Ketelaere this summer – the 21-year-old Belgium international who scored 18 goals and registered ten assists over 49 appearances for Club Brugge last season – should Orta manage to tie up deals for both players ahead of 2022/23, the Spanish director of football could well have formed the basis of the Leeds attack for many a year to come.
