Beren Cross has dropped an update on reported Leeds United transfer target Adama Traore.
In a recent Q&A for Leeds Live, the journalist revealed that, despite numerous reports linking the Whites with a move for the Wolverhampton Wanderers winger this summer, Victor Orta is not pursuing a deal for the 26-year-old in the current market.
In response to a supporter’s question asking whether there was any truth in the Traore rumours, Cross said: “As it stands, Traore does not look like someone near the top of Orta’s wanted lists. Evidently, there is a long-standing connection and relationship between them, but right now he is not someone Leeds are looking to bring in.
“The window has a long way to go and we cannot predict every little twist and turn, so who knows. If other targets evade Orta you could not rule out Traore being someone he likes later in the summer, but right now he’s not understood to be one they are actively pursuing.”
While it is undeniable that, if a manager can get the best out of Traore, the forward is an incredibly dangerous weapon to possess in a team’s attacking arsenal, considering the sheer number of Leeds supporters making it clear in the Q&A that they do not want Orta to make a move for the Spain international this summer, Cross’ update is sure to have left them buzzing.
And, considering just how poor the £18m-rated winger was in the final third throughout the first half of the 2021/22 campaign, it is not difficult to understand why a large number of the Elland Road faithful feel this way.
Indeed, over his 20 Premier League appearances last season – only 10 of which came as starts – the £46k-per-week forward scored just one goal, registered no assists and missed three big chances for Bruno Lage’s side, as well as making an average of a mere 11.6 passes, 0.5 crosses and hitting the target with just 0.3 shots per game.
As such, should Traore be one of the players on Orta’s list of potential candidates to replace the outbound Raphinha – who scored 11 goals, provided three assists and created 10 big chances over 35 league fixtures last term – it is clear to see that the Spaniard is simply not of the standard required to do so – something which leads us to believe that supporters will love Cross’ latest update.
