Leeds United are interested in a deal to bring George Hall to Elland Road in the January transfer window.

What’s the talk?

That’s according to a report by The Sun, who claim that Victor Orta is currently leading the race to sign the Birmingham City starlet this winter, with a host of other unnamed Premier League clubs are also said to be tracking the 18-year-old ahead of a potential swoop in the January market.

This is not the first time the Whites have been linked with the 18-year-old, as Hall was also reported to have been a target of the Spanish director of football this summer, with the Championship side knocking back Leeds’ £3m offer for the England U19 international in August.

Orta’s next Greenwood

Considering the amount of hype surrounding the future of Hall, coupled with Orta’s well-known desire to add the most exciting youngsters to Leeds’ academy ranks, it is not difficult to understand why the Spaniard would be interested in a deal to bring the teenager to Elland Road this winter.

Indeed, despite his tender age, the £1.5m-rated talent has already established himself as a regular in John Eustace’s senior squad this season, scoring one goal, registering one assist and creating two big chances for his teammates over his 15 Championship fixtures in 2022/23.

The 18-year-old also caught the eye during his time in Birmingham’s youth ranks, scoring three goals and providing two assists over his ten outings for the U18s, while also bagging three goals and registering one assist over 12 fixtures for the U21s.

These returns rather understandably saw the youngster earn a significant amount of praise, with Martyn Olorenshaw, the U18s lead coach, stating of the midfielder last November:

“It is really positive, he has been in the programme since pre-academy, to get a boy all the way through is a massive pat on the back for everybody involved either now or previously in George’s journey.

“He is explosive, dynamic and has the prowess to influence games. He is a really exciting player that has the ceiling to achieve whatever he wants to achieve.

What month did Marcelo Bielsa's tenure come to an unfortunate end?

“He has received international recognition recently which is a huge achievement, a testament to all his hard work and a reflection of his character.”

As such, should Orta manage to get a deal over the line for the Blues sensation this winter, he could well prove to be the director of football’s next Sam Greenwood-esque find in the transfer market. Indeed, he was also brought in from the EFL and is now starting to make waves at first-team level, scoring a sensational first senior goal in the win over Bournemouth last weekend.

Thus, with Hall undoubtedly looking as though he possesses the potential to go on and replicate the 20-year-old’s impressive rise from Leeds’ youth side to first-team football, he must be signed this January.
