Leeds: Santi Aouna drops Jack Harrison update

Santi Aouna has dropped an update on the future of Leeds United winger Jack Harrison.

What’s the latest?

In a recent post on Twitter, the Foot Mercato journalist revealed that, despite Newcastle United submitting a €40m (£33.5m) bid for the 25-year-old forward, Victor Orta has rejected the Magpies’ approach – with the Spaniard only said to be willing to part with the former England U21 international for an offer in the region of €47m (£40m) this summer.

In his tweet, Aouna said: “Newcastle offered €40m to Leeds for Jack Harrison. Offer refused by Leeds, who want €47m.”

It’s a boost for Leeds

With Harrison looking set to play a big role in Jesse Marsch’s first team in the Whites’ upcoming Premier League campaign – something the 48-year-old himself confirmed when speaking about the winger’s future last month – Aouna’s update revealing that Orta has rejected a considerable offer for the attacker is sure to come as a boost to everyone involved at Elland Road.

Indeed, despite enduring something of a disappointing campaign last time out – something that could be said about practically all of the first team squad last season – the £16.2m-rated talent still managed to score ten goals over his 38 appearances in all competitions, with only Raphinha hitting the back of the net more often than the former Manchester City starlet.

Furthermore, the £60k-per-week forward more than proved his Premier League ability over his 36 league fixtures back in 2020/21, scoring eight goals, registering eight assists and creating eight big chances for his teammates, with these returns seeing the Englishman average an extremely impressive SofaScore match rating of 6.96 – ranking him as the Whites’ ninth-best player in the top flight that season.

What month did Marcelo Bielsa's tenure come to an unfortunate end?

As such, Aouna’s claim that Orta will not accept anything less than a figure of £40m for Harrison this summer is undoubtedly fantastic news for all involved with Leeds, as, should the winger be sold at this hefty price, the Spaniard could quite easily replace the 25-year-old’s attacking output in Marsch’s squad with a €40m (£33.5m) swoop for the extremely impressive PSV Eindhoven forward Cody Gakpo.
