Leeds United are interested in a deal to bring Marc Roca to Elland Road this summer.
That’s according to Phil Hay, with The Athletic journalist revealing in a recent post on Twitter that sources in Germany have claimed Victor Orta is now targeting a move for the Bayern Munich midfielder in the summer transfer window, with the Whites’ sporting director keen to increase Jesse Marsch’s options in the middle of the park.
In his tweet, Hay said: “Sources in Germany tell The Athletic that Leeds United are targeting Bayern Munich’s Marc Roca, formerly of Espanyol, as they look to increase their midfield options.”
Considering just how talented a player Roca evidently is, Hay’s claim that Leeds are now plotting a move for the 25-year-old this summer is sure to have left the Elland Road faithful buzzing.
Indeed, according to FBref data, the £6.3m-rated talent ranks in the top 8% of midfielders in Europe’s big five leagues for passes attempted per 90, as well as the top 13% for pass completion, the top 13% for progressive passes and the top 30% for progressive carries over the last 365 days.
Furthermore, the £31k-per-week defensive midfielder also ranks in the top 7% for pressures per 90, the top 21% for interceptions, the top 34% for blocks and the top 43% for tackles over the past 12 months.
As such, when taking into account the former Spain international’s incredible passing ability and his impressive awareness in a defensive capacity, the former Espanyol starlet would very much appear to be cut from the same cloth as Leeds’ own deep-lying playmaker, Kalvin Phillips.
And, with the 26-year-old’s future appearing very much up in the air at present, should the England international go on to seal a move away from Elland Road in the coming months, Roca would certainly look to be a fantastic replacement for the Whites’ academy graduate.
