Leeds: Victor Orta interested in Moise Kean

Leeds United are interested in a deal to bring Moise Kean to Elland Road this summer.

What’s the talk?

That’s according to a report by French publication Jeunes Footeux (via Leeds Live), who claim that Victor Orta is considering a move for the Everton centre-forward in the coming days, with the Spaniard said to be willing to make an offer in the region of €20m (£17m) for the 22-year-old.

However, the report goes on to suggest that a deal for the Italy international will not be easy, with Juventus – where the striker is currently on a two-year loan – needing to active their €28m (£24m) obligation to buy the attacker before being able to move Kean on prior to the closure of the summer transfer window on September 1.

Finally, it is claimed that Newcastle United are also keeping a close eye on the situation of the centre-forward ahead of launching a potential bid of their own, although it is also said that both the Whites and the Magpies’ £17m valuation of the 12-cap international is not likely to meet the Italian side’s asking price.

“Huge talent”

While it is true that Kean did not enjoy the best campaign of his career following his £27.5m move to Everton back in the summer of 2019 – scoring two goals over 26 Premier League appearances in 2019/20 – the 22-year-old has nevertheless proven in the time since that, when used in a system that suits his style of play, he can be an exceptionally deadly and effective centre-forward.

Indeed, following this poor showing for the Toffees, the £21.6m-rated talent was loaned out to Paris Saint-Germain in 2020/21, with the player who Football Talent Scout Jacek Kulig dubbed a “huge talent” proving during his time in Paris that he still very much is a player with an incredibly bright future in the game.

What month did Marcelo Bielsa's tenure come to an unfortunate end?

Over his 26 appearances in the French top flight that season, the £52k-per-week striker was in sensational form, scoring 13 goals and creating two big chances for his teammates, in addition to taking an average of 2.0 shots – 0.9 of which hit the target – and completing one dribble per game.

The 22-year-old also impressed over his nine Champions League appearances – only four of which came as starts – that year, scoring three goals, registering one assist and creating one big chance, as well as taking an average of 1.2 shots – 0.6 of which hit the target – and completing one dribble per fixture.

As such, should Jesse Marsch believe that he can be the manager to get this form out of the player who Thomas Tuchel dubbed both “fearless” and “courageous” during his time at PSG, a late £17m move for the Italian would indeed appear to be a very shrewd one for Orta to make in the coming days, particularly with Patrick Bamford once again being an injury concern for the Whites.
