Transfer Focus

In a recent post on Twitter, the Italian journalist revealed that, despite recent reports linking Victor Orta with a move for the Burnley centre-back this summer, Wolverhampton Wanderers are the ones now closing in on a deal for the 21-year-old defender - with a £20m agreement reached regarding the transfer of the Republic of Ireland international.

In his tweet, Romano said: "Wolves are set to sign Nathan Collins on [a] permanent deal from Burnley. It's done for £20m. Personal terms agreed with Irish centre back and deal now in place."

Leeds supporters will be gutted

Considering just how talented a prospect Collins undoubtedly is, the news that Wolves now look set to land the defender ahead of Leeds is sure to come as a gutting blow to supporters and Orta alike.

Indeed, despite Burnley's poor showing in the top flight last time out, the £9m-rated centre-back nevertheless managed to catch the eye over his 19 Premier League appearances, helping his side keep five clean sheets, as well as making an average of 1.3 interceptions, 1.9 tackles, 4.3 clearances and winning 5.8 duels - at a success rate of 63% - per game.

The £10k-per-week defender also posed a threat for the Clarets going forwards, scoring two goals and creating three big chances for his teammates, in addition to making an average of 0.3 key passes, taking 0.8 shots and finding his man with 2.4 long balls per fixture.

These returns saw the six-cap international average an extremely impressive SofaScore match rating of 7.08, ranking him as Burnley's second-best performer in the league last season - a quite remarkable feat considering their 18th place finish.

As such, it is clear to see that Collins would have made an excellent addition to Jesse Marsch's options at centre-back ahead of Leeds' 2022/23 Premier League campaign - leading us to believe that Romano's latest update on the Irishman's move to Wolves is sure to be a devasting outcome for everyone involved with the Whites.
