Fabrizio Romano has dropped an update on the future of Leeds United winger Raphinha.
In a recent video posted on his YouTube channel, the Italian journalist revealed that, as a result of Barcelona’s perilous financial situation, the LaLiga side’s proposed €55m (£47m) move for the Leeds forward is now in considerable doubt.
Further reports have also suggested that, as yet, the Whites have received no contact from the Catalan outfit regarding an offer for the Brazil international, with sources from Elland Road said to have claimed that there are “no signs of life” in Barca’s pursuit of the 25-year-old.
Concerning the situation of Raphinha, Romano said: “There is a key point to say about Barca: the financial situation is really complicated. We can see how difficult [it is for them to complete] the Raphinha deal… many things are complicated.”
While it is not only Barcelona who are reported to hold an interest in a move for Raphinha this summer, considering how certain the forward’s switch to the Nou Camp had previously looked, Romano’s latest update on the Brazilian’s future is sure to have left the Elland Road faithful buzzing.
With Victor Orta and Jesse Marsch looking to build a squad over the summer transfer window that is capable of achieving a much better showing than Leeds’ 17th place finish in the Premier League last season, keeping hold of the £40.5m-rated talent would undoubtedly come as a huge boost to the club’s chances of doing so next time out.
Indeed, despite Leeds’ disappointing campaign, the £63k-per-week forward still managed to impress over his 35 league fixtures, scoring 11 goals, registering three assists and creating ten big chances for his teammates, as well as taking an average of 2.5 shots, making 1.9 key passes and completing 1.8 dribbles per game.
As such, should Raphinha remain in LS11 by the time September 1 comes around, it would undoubtedly represent a huge victory for Orta and the Whites – with Romano’s latest update certainly providing Leeds supporters with a slither of hope of this eventuality becoming a reality.
