Leeds United are in talks over a potential transfer move to sign RB Leipzig midfielder Tyler Adams this summer.

What's the news?

According to a recent report from the Yorkshire Evening Post, the Whites have been talking to the midfielder over a potential move to Elland Road.

The report also adds that the Yorkshire club see Adams as a suitable replacement for Kalvin Phillips, who is reportedly set to join Manchester City this summer.

After starting his career in America with the New York Red Bulls, the 23-year-old joined Leipzig back in the 2019 January transfer window.

Since then, the midfielder has made 102 appearances for the German club across all competitions.

In those appearances, he has won 80 tackles and made 104 blocks, 72 interceptions and 87 clearances, highlighting his defensive capabilities.

Taking into account how Phillips has won 87 tackles, made 103 blocks, 83 interceptions and 89 clearances in his 49 Premier League appearances for Leeds, it's safe to say that the club will need a player, like Adams, with the defensive talent to come in and replace the Englishman.

A huge coup for Leeds

Back in November, it was reported that fellow Premier League club, Arsenal, were looking to launch a €40m (£34m) move for the American, showing that it's not only Leeds that Adams has caught the attention of, once again highlighting how impressive he's been for the German club.

In terms of a potential move to Leeds this summer, not only would it be a huge coup for Victor Orta given his age and talent, it could be easy for the Leipzig figure to settle in given how he's played more games under Jesse Marsch (71), than any other coach he's had at club level.

In fact, back when the pair were at Leipzig together, the Leeds boss had this to say about him.

He said: "He’s a special person, he’s a special personality, he’s a special talent and the ceiling for him is massive. Massive here in Leipzig and in the Bundesliga and beyond. So I’m proud to be connected with him and to have played a role in his development and I can’t wait to see where he goes from here."

This shows that Marsch would certainly know how to get the best out of the midfielder and potentially act as an extra incentive to get him to join the club.
