Leeds United may have just missed out on one major opportunity this summer as one of their reported transfer targets edges closer towards a move elsewhere...

What's the word?

According to the Daily Mail, the Whites' Premier League rivals Crystal Palace have had a bid of £14m rising to £19.5m accepted by Queens Park Rangers for their midfield sensation Eberechi Eze.

The 22-year-old is expected to complete a medical and agree on personal terms later this week.

It comes just a couple of days after the Guardian mooted United's interest in the versatile playmaker and this fresh development could come as another killer blow to Victor Orta and co.

Buendia 2.0

It's not the first time that the Yorkshire giants have missed out on a target.

Back in the summer of 2018, Norwich City plucked Emi Buendia from right under their nose as the Argentine maestro was on loan to Cultural Leonesa, who have a special partnership with Leeds.

He's since gone onto become a revelation and despite the Canaries' relegation, he was one of their bright sparks, providing seven assists this season.

The same could happen here with Eze as he's been touted as "one of the best" former Spurs striker Les Ferdinand has seen, which is quite a statement given his playing career.

Whilst his boss Mark Warburton has described the England U21 international as a "very special player" - and that may well already ring true after comparisons to both Raheem Sterling and Dele Alli.

After witnessing his exploits first-hand during the Whites' Championship-winning campaign, a season which saw Eze deliver a whopping 14 goals and eight assists, Orta should have put him top of his priorities.

How many games will 35-year-old Pablo Hernandez realistically be fit for at this level? Eze solves that problem and many more with is versatility and unique playmaking skills.

This one reeks of being another that got away and the blame falls into the hands of Orta, absolutely.

AND in other news, Leeds should forget about Lewis Cook and re-sign another ex-star...
