Leeds United could seal a late move for long-term target Che Adams before the end of the summer transfer window...

What's the word?

Last month, The Sun claimed that the Yorkshire side were lining up a surprise move for the Southampton striker as he could be available for a move ahead of deadline day.

The Saints paid around £15m for the Scotland international in 2019 and he nearly made a switch to Elland Road in January 2020 as a replacement for Eddie Nketiah.

Now, talkSPORT transfer expert Alex Crook has delivered a claim on the situation. He told GIVEMESPORT:

"They’ve got a long-standing interest in Che Adams. Whether they’ll pay the type of money Southampton want is open to debate, but I think if they can bring in another striker, then that is their priority in these last two weeks."

Watch out Bamford

It's no secret that the Whites are in desperate need of another striker to rival Patrick Bamford and they could find an ideal and fairly cheap candidate in Adams.

Leeds rued the absence of the England frontman last campaign as he was restricted to nine appearances in the Premier League due to injuries.

It meant that Raphinha was the only player to hit double figures in terms of goals and assists, with manager Jesse Marsch relying on youth in Joe Gelhardt and even diminutive winger Dan James to lead the line.

Adams has vast experience in the English top-flight, where he has bagged a total of 20 goals from 97 matches.

Whilst the Scotsman isn't the most thrilling of signings, he should be respected and one glowing endorsement of the 26-year-old could start to set those pulses racing around west Yorkshire.

“He reminds me a little bit of the old Ronaldo," claimed former Ilkeston teammate Matt Baker to The Guardian. "He had that raw ability. I wouldn’t say he was electric quick but he was powerful and strong. He would brush people off and he could go through people. And he always had a finish at the end of it."

Meanwhile, his current manager - Ralph Hasenhuttl - has dubbed him a "phenomenon" for his ability to go on goalscoring streaks of form.

But he'll offer Marsch more than just goals, having been lauded for his "relentless" work rate in the past too, and that is right up the American's street with his style of football being a high-intensity and high-pressing.

"He must be so annoying to play against," once claimed journalist Tariq Panja.

As such, it's on director of football Victor Orta and his recruitment staff to look to get a move for Adams over the line before it's too late and with reported wages of just £30k-per-week, he could be bargain signing indeed.

Perhaps Bamford ought to watch out as another striker puts his place in jeopardy, particularly if he misses further minutes. He'd be the ideal eighth signing of the window for Leeds.

AND in other news, Orta could seal "amazing" signing as Leeds eye £21m target, he "makes things happen"...
