Leeds suffer late Josh Brownhill transfer blow

Leeds United have been struck a late blow in their attempts to sign Josh Brownhill…

What’s the word?

According to Football League World, Championship outfit Burnley will not be letting their 26-year-old midfielder leave Turf Moor before this evening’s transfer deadline.

It’s claimed that the Yorkshire giants had Brownhill on their radar but now the Clarets have made a definitive decision on his future as he’s set to remain a key part of Vincent Kompany’s squad heading into the remainder of 2022.

Would Brownhill have been a good signing for Leeds?

YES!

YES!

NO!

NO!

Deadline day nightmare

After director of football Victor Orta returned from Eindhoven this morning without PSV winger Cody Gakpo, who is thought to be a key target for the club, and losing out on Bamba Dieng, missing out on another player this late on could be something of a disaster on deadline day.

It seems that the Dutch international is out of reach until January, at the very least, and now as per the aforementioned report, Brownhill is seemingly unavailable too.

The £40k-per-week Burnley machine, once described as a “fabulous player” by former Premier League midfielder Lee Hendrie to Football FanCast, could have been a very reliable rotational option for manager Jesse Marsch heading into the remainder of the season.

Brownhill finished the Clarets’ relegation campaign as their third-best performer (to start 30+ matches). He ranked joint-first in the squad for interceptions (1.9 per game), second for tackles (2.1 per game) and joint-second for key passes created (1.1 per game), via WhoScored.

He is currently the club-record signing...

Clearly capable of influencing the game at either end of the pitch, the former Bristol City man may well have been an ideal signing as he could fill in for any of Leeds’ current engine room options, such as the defensively-minded Marc Roca, or the more box-to-box Tyler Adams.

Therefore, Orta and Marsch will surely be gutted to have missed out on Brownhill, who BBC pundit Garth Crooks dubbed “breathtaking” only in May, as he has all the hallmarks of being a solid signing, though for now, that’s something that will not be happening.

AND in other news, Leeds now plot “surprise” D-day move for “fearless” target, it’d be another Orta steal
