Leeds United are said to be interested in a move for Todd Cantwell, according to the Daily Mail.

It's not the first time that the Yorkshire giants have been linked with signing the Norwich City dynamo either - back in the summer, he was subject to a mooted £15m offer but evidently, that failed to come to fruition.

The 23-year-old is interestingly out of contact at the end of the current campaign, meaning chairman Andrea Radrizzani may not pay a penny in terms of transfer fees as he'll be available for free this summer.

In the quest to find Marcelo Bielsa some midfield reinforcements, the 5 foot 10 Canaries graduate - who has also been linked with Liverpool - would be an intriguing option.

Only a few years ago, Cantwell was being touted for big things.

The Sportsman's Graham Ruthven compared his playing style to that of Manchester City's £100m man Jack Grealish.

'It’s in the way he can slow down a match before quickening it up at will and in the way he strikes the ball so purely. It’s even in the way Cantwell’s hair flutters in the wind and certainly in the way his socks are frequently further down his leg than is ordinary,' he wrote.

Elsewhere, the Norwich playmaker has been described as having "god-given" talent by his former youth coach Gary Cockaday, who waxed lyrical about his credentials to The Athletic in 2019.

The attacking maestro, who can play on either flank and through the middle, has struggled for minutes and consistency this season but in each of the last two campaigns - one in the Championship, one in the Premier League, the 23-year-old scored 12 goals and provided eight assists, per WhoScored.

Meanwhile, a career average of 1.4 key passes and 2.8 dribbles suggests that he's a nuisance in the final third, one similar to that of Grealish, who isn't afraid of taking his man on before trying to contribute a goal or assist.

Cantwell is now valued at £18m by Transfermarkt, so landing him on a free in the summer would certainly be quite the steal and a shrewd investment.

Whites director of football Victor Orta must look to make the most of this opportunity as Bielsa would be the perfect manager to bring the best back out of the Canaries gem.
