Leicester City could sign their Wesley Fofana replacement before deadline day, if reports in France are to be believed…

What’s the word?

According to Media Foot Marseille, Paris Saint-Germain’s Abdou Diallo could be just that man.

Having reportedly held an interest for nearly two years, the impending exit of Fofana to Chelsea has clearly accelerated their need to make a move.

AS Roma, AC Milan and West Ham United have all shown an interest in the Senegal international. He has just one year left on his £87.6k-per-week deal.

He can be the perfect Fofana heir

With a huge fee surely incoming for their sensational young defender, bringing in the PSG man could be a stroke of genius from Brendan Rodgers, who has been frustrated in the summer window.

The 26-year-old is full of experience at the top level, having amassed 60 Ligue 1, 55 Bundesliga and 21 Champions League appearances during his career.

He would dwarf what Fofana offered experience-wise, and also boasts the qualities that made the Foxes man such an instant hit. Labelled “strong”, whilst also being a “leader”, Diallo could actually have a bigger instant impact on the side.

With his game time limited in the past season, now seems like a perfect time to move for all parties involved.

In late July it was revealed that he had a price tag of around €20m (£17m), so if he was to be the replacement for Fofana, who has been touted in deals way over £70m, it would finally give Rodgers a much-needed financial injection to make some signings.

The 21-year-old has been lauded during his time at the King Power Stadium for his ability with the ball at his feet, ranking in the top 11% for passes attempted and the top 7% for progressive carries.

Diallo however, full of experience playing with some of the world’s best players, boasts a pass completion rate that sees him ranked in the top 2% and in the top 13% for dribbles completed.

He is clearly just as adept at playing out from the back, without setting the world alight defensively.

This transfer switch around could mark a like-for-like change for Leicester, whilst earning an untold amount of money to improve the rest of the squad.

With Diallo as his successor, Rodgers need not worry about life after Fofana.
