Leicester City receive update on Domenico Berardi

Leicester City have received an update on their pursuit of Sassuolo winger Domenico Berardi.

What’s the story?

Well-known journalist and transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on the Foxes pursuit of the 26-year-old, relaying a quote from Sassuolo CEO Giovanni Carnevali on the situation.

He tweeted: “Sassuolo CEO Carnevali about Domenico Berardi and Leicester rumours: ‘We want to keep Berardi, he’s our top player. If we receive an important bid, we will discuss about it and take a decision together with the player. But we’re not selling our stars later in August’.”

Will Leicester sign Berardi?

Yes, definitely!

Yes, definitely!

No way!

Fans will be excited

Although Carnevali expressed his desire to keep Berardi at the club, he also stated that the Neroverdi would consider an ‘important bid’, giving Leicester hope that a deal can be completed.

This latest revelation will surely have the Foxes’ fanbase excited, as the door appears to be open for Berardi’s potential arrival at the King Power Stadium.

After consecutive fifth-place finishes in the Premier League standings, Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers has wasted no time strengthening his first team squad this summer. The arrivals of Patson Daka, Boubakary Soumare and Ryan Bertrand have already significantly bolstered the FA Cup holders’ ranks, but Berardi would be seen as another major coup.

His outstanding displays for Sassuolo in recent years have caught the eye of several top clubs, with Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur also credited with an interest in the Italy international, and it’s easy to see why so many English clubs are reportedly eyeing up a move for the attacking talent.

In 30 Serie A appearances last term, Berardi bagged an outstanding 17 goals, providing a further eight assists for his teammates, highlighting his top-class ability in attack.

With Leicester currently boasting Marc Albrighton as their only natural option on the right wing, pulling off a move for the £31.5m-rated Berardi would provide Rodgers with added quality and competition in the final third of the pitch.

It remains to be seen whether the Leicester hierarchy follow up their interest in the Italian in the shape of an official bid, but his prospective arrival in the Midlands could provide the crucial boost that the Foxes need to finally qualify for the Champions League.
