Leicester City could be set to finally bring in their Ben Chilwell replacement this summer, with reports that the Foxes are interested in a deal for Atalanta’s Robin Gosens.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the German is the “main option” for Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers on his left-back shopping list in the summer, and it is certainly easy to see why.

Rated at £31.5m by Transfermarkt, Gosens has become one of the most productive full-backs in Europe in his time in Bergamo. Over the past two seasons, he has scored 20 goals and provided 16 assists.

Those are very impressive figures for a defender and would surely make him an attractive option for any club around Europe, let alone the Foxes.

Indeed, those numbers have seen Gosens draw plenty of praise. Former Torino and Lazio defender Roberto Cravero suggested that he is “doing better” than current Liverpool full-back Trent Alexander-Arnold, who has also harnessed an extreme talent of attacking from defensive positions.

It goes without saying that the 26-year-old alone would be an excellent addition for Leicester, especially when considering the current state of their squad.

Current left-back Christian Fuchs is out of contract at the end of the season, whilst youngster Luke Thomas is a talent but still raw.

The likes of James Justin and Timothy Castagne are capable of deputising on the left flank but the former remains out with a long-term injury, whilst the Belgian has proven to be much more capable on the right-hand side, so he has not appeared to be the replacement for Chilwell that was originally perceived.

Heading into the 2021/22 campaign, the Foxes certainly need another option at left-back, especially if they secure another season in the Champions League.

That is certainly an aspect with which Gosens would be able to assist, having already made 15 appearances in the competition with current employers Atalanta.

Jon Rudkin must secure the 26-year-old German's signature and bring him to the King Power Stadium in the summer.
