An update has emerged on Leicester midfielder Dennis Praet, regarding Torino's interest in his services.

What's the talk?

According to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Serie A side Torino have placed an official offer for Praet.

They have asked to take the Belgian international on loan for the season with an option to sign him permanently for €15m (£12.8m) next summer, with talks now ongoing between the two clubs.

And it appears as though he's on his way to the Italian side with Fabrizio Romano reporting on Monday morning that a deal was done and dusted after a medical took place.

Get rid

Brendan Rodgers must react to this offer from Torino by ruthlessly axing Praet from his squad, in the form of negotiating a deal with the Italian club to include an obligation to sign him for £12.8m next summer.

The 27-year-old started 10 Premier League matches last term as he failed to break into the Northern Irishman's team week-in-week-out. He averaged a dismal WhoScored rating of 6.41 as he made 0.9 tackles and 0.5 interceptions per game, suggesting that he was off the pace defensively.

Offensively, he averaged 0.5 shots, 0.5 key passes and 0.4 dribbles completed per game. This shows that he was unable to make an impact in either box, which makes you wonder what he's even there for. His lack of cutting edge in attack and absence of steel going back the other way could be why Rodgers has refused to give him a starring role in his side of late.

Earlier this year, Praet admitted that he faced a 'struggle' in the 2020/21 campaign and explained why it was difficult for him to get regular minutes in the team. He said:

“It is of course not easy to fight back into a team that is doing quite well. In the past few weeks, I didn't take much playing time. Of course that's always a shame and painful for a football player, because you just want to play.

“We are now playing with three or five in the back and therefore in a different system than in the beginning of this campaign. The regular midfield with Tielemans, Wilfred Ndidi and Maddison is of course there. It really is a struggle to get a place there.

“Last season I was often slightly deeper. More in the eight and thus in the place of Youri Tielemans. This season I mainly played as a 10. For that position, I am in competition with James Maddison."

As Praet himself has explained, he has the likes of Youri Tielemans, James Maddison and Wilfred Ndidi to compete with in midfield, which is another reason why his game time has been limited.

Therefore, Rodgers must axe him from the squad and allow him to continue his career elsewhere as he has not shown enough at the King Power to suggest that he'll be a valuable asset going forward.

Leicester should attempt to negotiate a deal with Torino that includes an obligation to sign Praet permanently next summer should they avoid relegation to Serie B. This allows the Italian team to take him on loan for the campaign and defer the payment for a year, whilst it also gives the Foxes the chance to axe Praet from their squad permanently.
