Lyon have pretty much been at the centre of attention in the media in the last couple of days.

All of that was actually started by their sporting director, Juninho Pernambucano, who officially revealed the fact that Manchester United have the first option to buy their star forward, Memphis Depay, should the 25-year-old be put on the market.

Of course, with Tottenham Hotspur also linked with the player, it's difficult to escape the thought of the Dutchman potentially leaving the club in the not so distant future.

But while he could definitely help both Spurs and the Red Devils, both of whom are currently not really firing on all cylinders, that transfer, if it were really to go through, would be quite disastrous for Olympique Lyon.

Without beating around the bush too much, Lyon are currently in the midst of being a shambles.

After an impressive first couple of games at the very start of the 2019/20 campaign, they have gone under and have been struggling to regain form ever since, sitting in 14th at the moment.

The only positive thing they have going for themselves at this particular point in time is actually Depay himself.

Despite the team failing collectively, the 25-year-old former Red Devil is somehow playing the best football of his career.

Depay has played a total of 14 games across all competitions for Lyon and managed to bag 11 goals and one assist in the process.

Not to mention that he scored four goals in four Champions League matches as well, proving that he is indeed a player for big clashes.

And even with his red-hot form, Lyon have been far from perfect.

In fact, were Depay to leave this season or even the next one, it could prove to be the final nail in the coffin of a team that was once a giant of the footballing stage.

Juninho did confirm Manchester United will have priority on the player but at the moment, we still don't know whether they're planning to actually move for him soon or not.

But one thing is for sure - his departure may very well sink the whole ship.
