Olympique Lyon are currently not really enjoying the best of runs to the 2019/20 Ligue 1 season.

Despite a really good start to the campaign, the once French titans quickly fell off and their struggles continued to this date.

Currently, they are sitting in 14th with just 16 points under their belts after 13 games played. By all means, not really an impressive tally for a team that has so much potential.

But regardless of the team's overall issues, one man has been shining more than anyone else - Memphis Depay.

And interestingly enough, just recently, Lyon have officially confirmed that Manchester United, Depay's former club, have first option on the £50m-rated man in case he is put on the market.

Seeing as he's having a ridiculously good season over in Ligue 1, it's safe to say that his potential return to Old Trafford would be well warranted.

Depay has been a real goal-machine so far, managing to score seven goals and pick up one assist one in the ten games he's played in the domestic league for Lyon, and 11 in 14 across all competitions.

Apart from that, he can boast 3.9 shots, 1.9 key passes and 2.3 dribbles per game in Ligue 1, and has been Lyon's best-rated player in 2019/20 according to WhoScored's rating system.

Whether the Red Devils will actually go for the 25-year-old star or not we still don't know, but the report coming from The Sun does state it is a possibility, especially if Depay decides not to extend his contract with the French team.

And since Manchester United are currently struggling themselves, seeing how they are seventh in the Premier League table, incorporating a player with such potential who already has a history with their club could be beneficial for them.

In the 53 games he's played for them back when he was in England, Depay bagged seven goals and six assists.

Compared to his tally now, he truly does seem like a player reborn.

Of course, with Lyon's more than just unfavourable situation in Ligue 1, it wouldn't be a stretch to assume he would potentially fancy trying his luck at Old Trafford once again.

As things currently stand, that would be a major scoop for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's men.
