According to a new report from FootMercato, Manchester United are the next Premier League club to try their luck with Olympique Lyon's Moussa Dembele.

What's the word, then?

The 23-year-old star seems to be in high demand, as the same source states, with both Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur already failing in their attempts to sign Dembele.

But with Marcus Rashford's recent injury, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer might be forced into the market himself as he searches for a reliable substitute for his star forward.

FootMercato go as far as saying that the Red Devils wish to submit an opening offer of €50m (£42.5m) plus bonuses, which trumps the Blues' intial €40m bid.

It's still unclear whether Lyon will budge but their initial stance was clear as day - they don't want to see Dembele go.

Verdict

Even though we're still waiting for the French outfit's reaction to that reported bid from Man United, it still feels like keeping the player around is the best possible outcome for Lyon.

Dembele has been extremely prolific in the ongoing 2019/20 season, netting 15 goals and assisting a further five in 29 games played across all competitions.

At a club that's still struggling to compete for the title in France and currently sitting in seventh place, it's a rather impressive return for the former Celtic attacker.

FootMercato mention that Man United have also tried their luck with Timo Werner but RB Leipzig were having none of it, and now, a similar thing might happen with Dembele and Lyon.

If this bid fails as well, Solskjaer might be forced to look into some loan options instead.

One way or the other, the French team should definitely stand their ground and aim to keep their talisman at the club.

Needless to say, losing your league top-scorer mid-season is far from ideal and for a team that's trying to break into the top spots in Ligue 1, it could even be fatal.
