According to a fresh report from Manchester Evening News, Paris Saint-Germain’s Edinson Cavani could be offered to Manchester United in the summer.
The same outlet states that a January transaction won’t be possible and that the French titans currently value their striker at around £30m.
But the Uruguayan hitman is not expected to sign a new deal at Parc des Princes with his current one due to expire in the summer of this year, which would make him a free agent in just over five months time.
Quickfire Quiz: How much do you know about Man Utd’s history in the January transfer window?
With that in mind, and despite the interest from the likes of Chelsea and Atletico Madrid, Manchester Evening News say that a move to United in the summer is now a possibility.
The Red Devils also tried to snatch the player back in 2014 but have since deemed his profile unfitting of their needs, as the same source outlines.
Regardless of that, it seems that one way or the other, Cavani’s time in the French capital is slowly but surely coming to an end.
It’s still pretty surprising that Paris Saint-Germain are seemingly so eager to move Cavani on.
The Uruguayan is now 32 years of age, granted, but he’s still not as washed up as his current situation may indicate.
Yes, he’s only been able to muster 568 minutes in 2019/20 across all competitions but that was still enough for him to find the net five times, providing one assist in the Cup as well.
It also feels a bit counterproductive to let such a big star leave for free in the summer if there is a possibility to at least get some compensation for him now.
If you really are to lose a player of Cavani’s calibre, it would stand to reason to at least try to make it worth your while.
Of course, getting him off the wage bill is also significant but that doesn’t make this willingness to ship him off less baffling.
Either way, the Uruguayan’s time at the French capital seems all but over.
