This PSG castaway is the man West Ham should be looking at (not Ibra)

It’s not a bad time to be a Paris Saint-Germain player. More domestic success this season has cemented the Parisians as the dominant force in France which for many members of their squad is nothing but a positive.

But for some of the fringe players in the side it’s not such a good thing. To be part of title-winning squad season after season is always great, but when you’re not the one bringing home the silverware it can be a little disheartening.

So when news broke that Gregory van der Wiel will leave the club at the end of this season, it wasn’t a surprise when certain clubs perked up and began to take notice of his imminent departure. And one of those sides is West Ham United, who are on an equally exciting journey themselves.

Manchester United’s FA Cup win over Crystal Palace last week meant the Hammers just scraped through into the Europa League and when coupled with their new stadium move, it’s not a bad time to be a part of the Irons’ set up. That’s why the Hammers should look to target the Dutch defender.

He’s been well and truly out of favour at Laurent Blanc’s side this season with Ivory Coast international Serge Aurier ahead of him. And whilst the former Ajax man admitted he isn’t happy to play second fiddle, a move to the Premier League could be exactly what he needs.

And what an exciting move to embark on. West Ham United are trying to break into the Premier League’s ‘big four’ and let’s be honest, they aren’t that far away. But the signing of Van der Wiel would greatly improve their side for a number of reasons.

First of all, they’d be signing a player with immense domestic and international experience. Van der Wiel was a product of the famed Ajax academy and after his spell in his native homeland, he went on to make over 132 appearances for PSG over four seasons.

He’s also been capped 45 times for the Netherlands national team and is well regarded in the international set up, despite his apparent inability to get back into the PSG team. His signing would also give West Ham flexibility. Michail Antonio has been a big player in defence this year but he’s a natural winger and many Hammers fans want to see him played further up the pitch. Van der Wiel’s signing would allow this and would give them another attacking option in defence.

So there you go Slaven – target Van der Wiel and it will mean good things for your side all over the pitch.
