Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's troops are currently not enjoying the best of times over in the Premier League.

After a short honeymoon phase under the Norwegian, the Red Devils are now struggling to compete with England's best and are sitting in mid-table as a direct result of that.

Still, changes are bound to happen in the near future and the winter transfer market will offer an opportunity for United to freshen things up.

Of course, Paul Pogba is still very much at the centre of attention as the Frenchman might be heading out the exit door. But in his stead, Manchester United are looking to bring in the 17-year-old prodigy, Eduardo Camavinga, as per a report from The Sun.

They stated that the youngster is seen as a "long-term successor" for their star midfielder and looking at his recent displays, that sort of claims just might be warranted despite his young age.

His current club, Rennes, beat Saint-Etienne 2-1 over the weekend and Camavinga was very much a big part of that triumph.

The 17-year-old managed to record three dribbles and was subsequently fouled three times because of it. He also maintained 88.6% passing accuracy with 67 touches on the night - the fourth highest in the whole team.

But what makes him such a big target for Manchester United is his tendency to contribute both to attack and defence. Against Saint-Etienne, he also registered four tackles, two interceptions and two aerials won.

Needless to say, he was quite an imposing figure in Rennes' midfield and his talent can already be seen.

If Pogba truly is to leave, the Red Devils will be in dire need of quality and Camavinga will definitely bring that with him.

The best part, however, is the fact that he's a bet for the future and someone who could be marshalling United's midfield for years to come.

But first, Solskjaer will have to get his hands on the kid and given his undeniable potential and the interest from other teams, such as Barcelona (as per L'Equipe via Mundo Deportivo), this may be a task easier said than done.

Only time will tell.
