Liverpool's links with Philippe Coutinho just don't seem to go away.

The Brazilian's departure from Anfield in 2018 was rather acrimonious following months of speculation linking him with a move to Barcelona, but he has since been linked with a return to the club where he made his name.

The mega-money move to Catalonia has not gone as the attacking midfielder will have hoped, with the club's decision to send him to Bayern Munich on loan last summer speaking volumes about his lack of importance to the first team squad and also their desire to get him off the wage bill.

Who said it: Klopp or Thanos?

But, according to the Mirror, the 27-year-old was discussed as a potential signing for Liverpool last summer.

Indeed, the report claims Michael Edwards and Jurgen Klopp held a meeting to mull over the possibiity of bringing him back to Merseyside, but an £8m loan fee combined with an expectation to pay 100% of his £250k-per-week salary eventually put them off.

Given Liverpool's highest earner, Mo Salah, is earning £200k-per-week, per Spotrac, it is little surprise that the club's decision makers swerved the deal.

In response to the emerging reports, the Reds faithful reacted in their numbers, with the fans seemingly divided on the subject.

Some suggested it would have been foolish to bring him back, though there remains a contingent of supporters who want to see him complete a stunning return.
