Speaking exclusively to Football FanCast, former Premier League striker Dean Windass has backed Jurgen Klopp to stay at Liverpool for at least one more season.
Following huge success in both the Champions League and Premier League in recent seasons, the Reds have made a tame defence of their first title for 30-years, although long-term injuries to both centre-back pair Virgil Van Dijk and Joe Gomez have hardly helped Liverpool’s case.
In fact, following five league defeats from their previous seven matches, Klopp’s team are now in serious danger of missing out on finishing in the top-four altogether, although their victory at Wolves on Monday night did help their case.
Meanwhile, Klopp himself has been linked with the Germany job, with Joachim Low set to leave after the European Championships, although the Reds boss quickly denied those claims and admitted that he remains focused on Liverpool.
And Windass believes that Klopp will want at least another season at Anfield to pay back the returning Reds supporters for their wretched campaign.
He told Football FanCast:
“Well there’s talk of him taking over the national team, isn’t there? But I don’t think he’ll leave. When life gets back to normal and supporters get back, I think he’ll have one more season because of the supporters not being there. He’s got to earn the right to say ‘the supporters have been with me before COVID, but I want to pay them back’.
“I think he will stay for one more season.”
Liverpool are next in action after the international break when they face Arsenal in the Premier League on April 4.
