Jurgen Klopp looks to have been handed a timely injury boost this week, with Diogo Jota reportedly having returned to training after recovering from injury.

The Portuguese forward has been sidelined since injuring his knee in the 1-1 draw against FC Midtjylland in December and has been sorely missed since, with the Reds having regularly struggled to find the back of the net since the turn of the year.

The young forward joined Liverpool from Wolves during the summer and started superbly with the Merseyside outfit, contributing nine goals in 17 appearances in all competitions for Klopp's side.

In the game before Jota's injury, Liverpool thrashed Wolves 4-0 at Anfield to go joint-top of the Premier League, so it is clear to see the decline in his time out injured, as the Reds now sit sixth in the top-flight, 19 points behind leaders Manchester City.

Of course, this can be attributed to losing several other first-team players, such as Joel Matip and Fabinho, to injury in recent months, but there is no doubt that the Reds have struggled going forward in the absence of Jota.

Klopp's side have failed to score in five Premier League fixtures since 2021 began, whereas last season, they only failed to score on three occasions in the top-flight.

Roberto Firmino has just six goals this season and has been guilty of missing chances in recent fixtures, whereas Sadio Mane has scored just one Premier League goal in 2021, which emphasises that Mohamed Salah has been under a lot of pressure to provide the goals in this Liverpool side.

Therefore, having the £36 million-rated Jota back in the side will surely be a huge boost for Klopp, as it adds much more of a goalscoring threat in his side, and he is arguably a better option than Divock Origi from the bench, with the Belgian having struggled to perform this season, with just two Carabao Cup goals to his name.

It also opens up the possibility of Liverpool reverting to a 4-2-3-1 formation rather than a 4-3-3, as you could definitely suggest that their midfield has been too defensive in recent fixtures, so deploying Jota or Firmino in an attacking midfield role could certainly increase their creativity and attacking output.

Earlier in the season, Pep Lijnders described Jota as a "monster" in training, so hopefully, the Portuguese winger will be able to quickly regain match fitness and help propel the Reds back up the Premier League table.
