Fabrizio Romano has dropped a major Liverpool transfer development about Aberdeen defender Calvin Ramsay.

What’s the news?

The Italian journalist tweeted: “Liverpool and Aberdeen have signed all paperworks for Calvin Ramsay. Contract ready until 2027 to be completed once medical is done.”

The final fee is £4m up front, with a further £2.5m in add-ons, and this is a significant income for the Scottish club.

Ramsay looks set to become Jurgen Klopp’s third summer signing with the transfer window only a week old. The German has acted quickly and done plenty of his transfer business early in the window, signing Fabio Carvalho from Fulham and Darwin Nunez from Benfica in a club-record £85m deal.

Great news for Liverpool

Ramsay's signing indicates that Klopp is looking ahead to the future, as the right-back is only 18 years old.

It could prove to be an excellent signing for Liverpool, as with the futures of Neco Williams and Joe Gomez uncertain ahead of next season, another right-back is required as cover for Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Ramsay fits the bill perfectly and will be able to continue his development under the tutelage of Alexander-Arnold going forward.

The youngster appears to be in a similar mould to the England star, as he often likes to display his attacking talents. He scored once and registered four assists last season for Aberdeen, whilst also delivering 154 crosses during the campaign, 27 more than Alexander-Arnold.

The Scot should be able to fit into Klopp’s style of play with ease considering his performances last term, and although he might not be the first-choice right-back any time soon, he will have one of the best exponents of his position in the world as a mentor.

With the combined fee totalling £6.5m, this could represent one of the best pieces of transfer business in England this summer, and it will be interesting to see just how often the 18-year-old plays next season.
