Liverpool must beat Everton to the signing of Gleison Bremer in January

Following the injury to Joe Gomez, Liverpool have been linked with a whole host of centre-backs, as they look to find a solution to their current defensive injury crisis.

Jurgen Klopp had already lost Virgil van Dijk to a long-term injury when Gomez was injured during England training earlier this month, which leaves the Reds with just Joel Matip as a natural, senior centre-back in their side.

Although Fabinho has been trusted to fill in there in the past, the Brazilian is also currently sidelined after picking up an injury in the Champions League, although he is not expected to be out for as long as Gomez and Van Dijk.

Youngsters Rhys Williams and Nathaniel Phillips have done stellar jobs filling in at centre-back so far but they are both inexperienced, and Klopp will no doubt be desperate to bring in another centre-half during the upcoming January transfer window before their season is potentially train-wrecked.

One man they have been linked to recently is Torino centre-back, Gleison Bremer, with The Athletic suggesting that the Brazilian is on Liverpool’s shortlist ahead of the January window.

However, it seems as if the Reds could face serious competition for the signing of the 23-year-old will Leicester City and Merseyside rivals Everton both linked with a move for the defender in the past.

The young centre-back has enjoyed a strong start to the 2020/21 Serie A campaign, having averaged a solid 6.77 rating across his six appearances in Italy’s top-flight (per WhoScored).

Liverpool only had one player sent off during the 2019/20 season - but who was it?

Last season saw the Brazilian make 27 appearances in Serie A, in which he averaged a very strong 6.92 rating, so it is no surprise that he is attracting interest from Premier League clubs.

Bremer is currently valued at £4.5 million by Transfermarkt, and Liverpool must ensure that they steal the march on other Premier League clubs by agreeing a deal with Torino quickly when the January transfer window opens, otherwise, they risk leaving themselves extremely short of centre-back options for the remainder of the campaign.
