Liverpool: Jordan Henderson injury update revealed

Liverpool have been going through an injury crisis already this season, and with the six-time European champions entering the first matchday of the Champions League, a fresh update has emerged on the condition of one player.

What’s the latest?

According to The Athletic, Jordan Henderson will be out of action for at least three weeks following an injury sustained against Newcastle United during the Premier League clash last Wednesday.

As per the report, the Reds captain has had a scan on his hamstring injury and will be unavailable for selection over the next three weeks, which includes tomorrow night’s clash away to Napoli

The 32-year-old is expected to be back for the Premier League clash against Brighton following the international break, and he may still be in contention to play in for England at the end of this month depending on his fitness at that time.

Jurgen Klopp will be gutted

There is no doubt that Jurgen Klopp will be gutted to lose one of his most experienced players in the midfield engine room for the Champions League opener, following the devastating defeat to Real Madrid in the final four months ago when Liverpool lost out on a seventh European Cup triumph.

The Reds have been massively weakened in the centre of the pitch over the season so far, with Thiago Alcantara, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Naby Keita and Curtis Jones also spending time out injured over the last few weeks.

First up, who was Liverpool's top goal scorer this season?

The injury fears surrounding Henderson last week came as a huge blow for the Reds and prompted the powerbrokers at Anfield to finally sign a midfielder as Arthur Melo arrived on Deadline Day. While he is only in on loan from Juventus, the 26-year-old should be able to offer much-needed cover in midfield.

Indeed, there is a silver lining as Thiago was spotted back in training on Tuesday, and Melo could be in contention for his first appearance in a red shirt against Napoli after being an unused substitute in the Merseyside derby at the weekend.

Will Henderson be a big miss vs Napoli?

With the return of Thiago coinciding with Henderson’s injury, Klopp has had a timely escape from what could’ve been an absolute disaster, and the Liverpool manager will surely hoping that the Spaniard can quickly return to action to help his team improve upon their worst start to a season during his seven-year Anfield reign.

While the captain may have come in for criticism for his performances in recent weeks, his experience of 45 Champions League games will surely be missed at an atmospheric stadium where the Reds have already lost twice during Klopp’s time in charge.
