Liverpool have seven players at the FIFA World Cup in Qatar this month, with Trent Alexander-Arnold, Jordan Henderson, Darwin Nunez, Fabinho, Alisson Becker, Ibrahima Konate and Virgil van Dijk all participating in the prestigious international tournament.

All of those have qualified for the knockout stages after finishing in the top spots of their respective groups, apart from summer signing Nunez, whose Uruguay team will face Ghana in their final group game tomorrow.

Jurgen Klopp will be impressed with all of the performances that his players have been putting on in Qatar so far, but one player has stood out by a country mile with his record-breaking defensive displays.

Ibrahima Konate has been an incredible force in the France team over his three appearances so far and has broken the record for the most tackles in a single game at this year's tournament and the most a centre-back has ever made in World Cup history, completing 11 with a 100% success rate in his 90-minute performance against Tunisia yesterday.

The talented centre-back has been rarely seen in the Liverpool squad over the current campaign, with just two appearances in the Premier League so far after suffering a knee injury in August which has kept him out of the team. However, there is no doubt that Klopp must unleash Konate when the Reds return to action later this month.

Across three World Cup appearances, the 23-year-old titan - who was dubbed "unbelievable" by journalist Kasra Moradi - has won 21 out of the 22 duels that he has contested. He has tallied a 92% pass completion rate so far, along with averaging 4.3 tackles, 2.7 clearances and a whopping 74.3 touches per game.

Ibrahima Konate from this World Cup

Although Konate was not expected to be a starter for France at the World Cup, Didier Deschamps has had to deal with a number of injury issues in his squad which has led to the Liverpool man's inclusion in the tournament and given him a golden opportunity to impress his nation's manager - something he has surely achieved.

Joe Gomez is usually the starting partner for Van Dijk when he is fit and available to play, but Konate's performances will be hard to ignore for the Liverpool manager and could make a huge difference in the Reds' campaign over the second half of the season.

The Merseysiders have conceded the third-most goals of any team in the top six of the Premier League table this season so far, so tightening up that defensive play with an incredibly on-form Konate could be the key to climbing back into the top four quickly when domestic action resumes.

It will be interesting to see if the Liverpool defender continues to dominate his opponents at the World Cup, and Klopp will surely be hoping that the 23-year-old can bring those impressive performances back to Merseyside when the tournament is over.
