Liverpool: Jurgen Klopp should unleash Minamino against Everton

Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool face Everton in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon, in which a win is needed for the Reds to keep pace with Manchester City at the top of the table.

And, with it looking increasingly likely that Robert Firmino will be missing through injury, despite Klopp claiming he is getting “better and better,” the Liverpool boss must unleash Takumi Minamino in his place.

Firmino has scored 11 goals over 31 appearances this season, while Minamino has scored nine goals in only 23 appearances. Indeed, when he plays, the 27-year-old is always a danger.

Klopp should start Minamino against Everton

The Japan international has many admirers, with his Liverpool boss being one of the biggest, lavishing praise on him following a superb performance against Norwich in the FA Cup – with Klopp labelling him a “constant threat” after the tie in which he scored a brace.

That match also saw him heralded as the “new Luis Suarez” by Ian Doyle for attempting to replicate the Uruguayan’s remarkable record against the Canaries.

The £72k-per-week forward has shone for Liverpool in both the FA Cup and League Cup this season, showing his German manager how much of a danger he can be.

Although his average SofaScore rating in the Premier League is just 6.83, he deserves a chance to shine. In the victorious League Cup campaign, he featured five times, scoring four goals – averaging a goal every 97 minutes.

Indeed, should he carry this form over into the Merseyside derby, Minamino very much has the potential the cause the Everton defenders nightmares.

It’s fair to say he hasn’t been given the chance he deserves in the Premier League, partly due to Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz’s blistering form at Anfield this season.

There is a future for the 27-year-old, the stats show he can shine when he is in the mood, and with Liverpool still involved in three competitions, the onus will be on Klopp to fully utilise his playing squad.
