Liverpool's campaign has been an extremely troublesome one for Jurgen Klopp with the German having to withstand perhaps his most difficult spell yet at Anfield.

A large reason for that has been their disappointing defence, with the Reds' backline going from an imperious force to a leaky commodity.

Indeed, Liverpool have conceded the first goal in eight of their 12 Premier League fixtures this term. It's a bad habit that started in 2021/22, when they conceded the first goal in their final four matches of the campaign.

Trent Alexander-Arnold has come under fire, as has Joe Gomez who made a horrendous error in that defeat to Leeds a week ago.

Thankfully, Klopp was able to rest a few faces in the win over Napoli in midweek, but that means changes could be on the horizon when they face Spurs on Sunday evening.

One such alteration must come at left-back, with Andy Robertson coming into the side at the expense of Kostas Tsimikas.

The lively full-back has never quite been able to live up to the performances of Liverpool's rampaging Scot, but that was never going to be an easy task.

It must be said, however, that the Greek did little wrong in that win over the Serie A side. Although he lost possession of the ball an alarming 21 times, he won six duels, completed 89% of his passes, two of which were key passes, and helped keep a clean sheet against a team who were 21 games unbeaten.

The wider picture is why he should be ditched against Tottenham, though, with the 26-year-old rating particularly poorly during the course of the season.

Of players to start four or more games, he is the third-worst player in the whole Liverpool squad with a WhoScored ranking of just 6.49 this season. With that in mind, it's hardly a surprise that Tsimikas was once dubbed "woeful" by former talkSPORT reporter James Dodd.

Robertson, by comparison, needs no introduction. He has enjoyed a quieter season by his lofty standards but he still has two assists in ten top-flight outings.

It's unlikely Conte's side will play too offensively against the Reds this evening and thus, Klopp will need to entrust his full-backs to get high up the pitch and deliver balls into the area. That has always been a strength of Robertson, with the Scotland international supplying his team with a whopping 57 assists in his Liverpool career.

Usually the man for a big occasion, he simply has to be unleashed in favour of dropping Tsimikas.
