Liverpool haven’t exactly set the world on fire this season in terms of results, with Jurgen Klopp’s men recording only three victories since their Community Shield win in July, conceding 14 goals in the process.

Glasgow Rangers make the trip to Anfield for tonight’s Champions League clash and it represents an excellent chance for the Reds to get their season back on track, especially with a Rangers side who have shipped plenty of goals in the competition already.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s men have conceded seven so far in the Champions League, and with that in mind, Klopp must start his strongest attacking trio. The German should unleash Luis Diaz, who could cause James Tavernier all sorts of problems.

On the chalkboard

Diaz was a revelation for Liverpool when he joined from Porto midway through last season for a fee of £37m, although it was perceived as somewhat of a gamble at the time, the move soon worked wonders for Klopp.

The Colombian netted six goals and registered five assists in 26 matches last season, making an instant impact at Anfield. The club narrowly missed out on a historic quadruple but securing the EFL Cup and FA Cup ensured it was an excellent start to life in England for Diaz.

The 25-year-old has begun this campaign from where he left off last season, already netting four times and with a rating of 7.2/10, he ranks third in the Liverpool squad in the Premier League this season as per SofaScore.

Against Brighton and Hove Albion at the weekend, with Liverpool trailing 2-1 at the break, Diaz replaced Fabio Carvalho at the break and made an instant impact. He assisted Roberto Firmino’s equaliser, while also having 37 touches, making one key pass and winning five out of his eight duels during his 45-minute cameo.

The winger always looks to get involved and this will be crucial against Rangers, as the Ibrox side tends to struggle against teams who keep possession and press successfully, with the damaging 4-0 defeat to Celtic being a key example.

Journalist Roberto Rojas dubbed Diaz as “a phenomenal player” at the end of last season, while Peter Hall referred to him as Liverpool’s latest “livewire” and if he performs like he has done all season, Tavernier could be in for a long night on the right-hand side of Rangers' defence.

He simply has to be unleashed from the off on this occasion, replacing the mellow Carvalho in attack.
