Journalist Fabrizio Romano has revealed that the Liverpool board are still backing manager Jurgen Klopp despite the club's recent poor form.

What’s the latest?

Things just seem to be going from bad to worse for the Reds of late and this weekend was no expectation as they tasted heavy defeat in the Premier League.

Indeed, travelling away from home, Liverpool were two goals down against Wolves inside the first 12 minutes of the game and couldn't recover in the second half as they surrendered all three points in a 3-0 defeat.

This means that in their last seven games in all competitions, the club have won just once, while in the league they have dropped to tenth in the table.

Unsurprisingly, there will be some supporters and members of the media who may start to have doubts over Klopp's long-term future with Liverpool but Romano has revealed that he is being backed for the time being.

While speaking on his YouTube channel, the journalist said: “It's really important to mention about Liverpool because it's a terrible moment. Numbers are really poor. They are doing very bad in the Premier League and so there is a strange feeling around the squad.

“But what we can say is that the Liverpool board and the Liverpool owners are still protecting and backing Jurgen Klopp. So they're not thinking about a new coach.

"As of now, there are no talks with any other agent on a coach to prepare the future of Jurgen Klopp. They want to continue with him. His contract was extended a few months ago and the idea is to plan with Klopp also for the summer transfer window to help Klopp to change a bit of the squad.”

Uncertain times ahead

Of course, Klopp extended his contract with the club only last April and so his new deal will run until the summer of 2026. If you wanted to be cynical about things, you could say that the board might not want to sack the German as it would probably cost them an awful lot of money to do that and then replace him.

And it seems as though FSG aren't super keen on splashing the cash right now seeing as Cody Gakpo was the club's only arrival in the January transfer market, even though many felt a new midfielder was needed too.

With the club up for sale, it might not make sense to lose Klopp either as he is essentially the face of the club right now. Beyond all those reasons, despite their current bad form, he has also achieved plenty in Liverpool – winning both the Premier League and the Champions League – and so he certainly deserves more time to turn things around.
