Liverpool made the short trip across Stanley Park to attend their first Merseyside Derby of the season this afternoon, but the Reds will be disappointed to come away with just a 0-0 draw against their bitter rivals Everton.

Last season, the Reds stole all six points in their two outings against the Toffees, winning 4-1 and 2-0, but the story of Liverpool's campaign so far continued to offer disappointment when the team failed to find the back of the net at Goodison Park.

Despite having more possession (61%), more shots on target (eight), hitting the woodwork three times and completing over 100 more passes than their opponents, Liverpool yet again struggled to connect play well enough to take all three points from the game.

One player who failed to dominate his position in the game was Trent Alexander-Arnold, finding it difficult throughout the fixture to make a positive impact on the team, and was eventually hooked by Jurgen Klopp after 59 minutes.

The £79m-rated Liverpool sensation - who was called out for his "poor form" by BT Sport's James McManus - lost 100% of his duels, won no tackles and made no dribble attempts, as well as lost the ball every 3.4 touches - proving that he was largely anonymous against the Toffees.

Klopp will be hoping that his first-choice right-back will be able to get it together for the Champions League clash against Napoli next week, as the Premier League title challenge slips further and further away from Liverpool's grasps after just six games.

Last season, the Reds drew eight, won 28 and lost just two of their games in the top flight, tallying up 92 points - just one shy of the Premier League champions Manchester City. However, they have already drawn three and lost one of their six games this time out.

This, as it stands, leaves Liverpool six points off the top spot - with Arsenal currently on 15 points in first - but that could change when Mikel Arteta's side see out their sixth fixture over this weekend, while Manchester City could also extend their lead on the Reds to seven points.

As such, Klopp must prepare his team to find success in their European campaign to inject some confidence back into the side, and the introduction of new signing Arthur Melo could be the perfect opportunity to add a fresh perspective to the starting line-up in the games ahead.
