Even though Liverpool are currently second in the Premier League table with 15 points from their opening seven games, they have conceded more goals than the likes of Chelsea, Manchester City and Brighton & Hove Albion.

Despite having the likes of Virgil van Dijk, Joel Matip, Joe Gomez, Ibrahima Konate and Nat Phillips as centre-back options, it seems as though the Merseysiders have their eye on acquiring a new defensive star.

What's the news?

According to the Daily Mail, Liverpool - alongside fellow Premier League clubs Everton and Arsenal - are reportedly eyeing up a move for Olympiacos centre-back Pape Abou Cisse.

The Senegal defender signed for the Greek club back in the 2017 January transfer window from French side AC Ajaccio. Since then, the 26-year-old, who is currently valued at £5.4m by Transfermarkt, has made 105 appearances for Olympiacos across all competitions, racking up an impressive haul of 12 goals for the club.

In his team's previous Europa League fixture against Fenerbahce, which saw the Greek side secure a 3-0 victory, Cisse made three tackles, won five out of his six duels and made one block and one clearance, ultimately earning himself a decent overall match rating of 7.1/10 according to SofaScore.

Next Van Dijk?

Regarding a potential move to Liverpool, we feel that Cisse, who stands at 1.97m which equates to 6 foot 5, could well be a good addition to Jurgen Klopp's squad for some extra defensive depth.

With current Liverpool centre-backs Van Dijk and Matip both 30, perhaps the Reds are apparently eyeing a move for the Senegal defender as a replacement for one of their older centre-back options.

In our view, we feel that Liverpool should try and sign Cisse either in the upcoming January transfer window or next summer to add an extra centre-back who could then go on to be a regular figure for the team alongside Konate, Gomez and Phillips once Van Dijk and Matip eventually leave Anfield.
