After failing to regain the Premier League title last season after winning it for the first time in 30 years during the 19/20 campaign, Liverpool have got their current season off to a good start, winning four and drawing three of their opening seven league games.

Despite the Reds still being unbeaten in the league and having scored more goals than any other club with 17, it seems as though the Merseyside club are keen on strengthening their squad in the near future.

What's the news?

It was recently reported by Italian media outlet Tuttosport that Liverpool are interested in signing Fiorentina striker Dusan Vlahovic.

It's claimed an auction may occur over the striker but the Reds will face plenty of competition for his signature with Juventus and Atletico Madrid also interested.

Since joining the Italian club back in the 2018 summer transfer window from FK Partizan Belgrade, the 21-year-old, who is currently valued at £36m according to Transfermarkt, has made a total of 92 appearances for Fiorentina across all competitions in which he has managed to score 35 goals and provide five assists along the way.

Firmino replacement?

Last season Vlahovic the striker rack up an impressive 21 goals in 37 Serie A appearances so he is quite evidently a deadly proposition.

So far this season, the 21-year-old, who editor in chief at Forza Italian Football, Conor Clancy described as a "complete" number nine, has already managed to score six goals in eight appearances across all competitions for the club.

Taking all of this into account, it's easy to see why Liverpool are apparently interested in adding the striker to their squad.

In our view, he could be a vast upgrade on Roberto Firmino.

The Brazilian isn't getting any younger at the age of 30 and he also has a lack of goalscoring consistency with that factor being brought into question at times in the past. He has failed to score more than nine league goals in his two previous Premier League campaigns, so we feel that a potential move for Vlahovic could be a great way of securing a future replacement.

Most importantly, he would add a bit of extra goalscoring power to their squad as they look to secure some more domestic and European titles.

Moving forward, if Liverpool do decide they want to sign a striker at some point in the future, either to replace Firmino or not, Vlahovic should definitely be an option they consider.
