Liverpool have struggled in the Premier League this season so far as they currently sit sixth in the table so there could be an opportunity to invest in the team in January with a reliable source revealing a potential transfer target.

What's the latest?

According to CBS reporter Ben Jacobs, Netherlands and PSV Eindhoven star Cody Gakpo is "on the radar" of Liverpool.

Jacobs tweeted:

"Cody Gakpo has been directly involved in 34 goals in 28 games for club and country this season. He's scored 16 and assisted 18. He's firmly on the radar of Manchester United, Liverpool and Arsenal."

Imagine him & Nunez

There is no doubt that Liverpool already possess a number of world-class talents in their forward line with the likes of Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Luis Diaz providing the attacking threat at Anfield alongside newly-signed Darwin Nunez.

However, there is no denying that Gakpo is one of the hottest prospects in Europe right now with the talented winger matching Manchester City's Erling Haaland for goal contributions this season (21) scoring nine goals and delivering 12 assists for Eindhoven so far.

The 23-year-old - who was hailed "special" by Fabrizio Romano - ranks in the top 1% of his positional peer across Europe for assists and non-penalty goals, as well as ranking in the top 5% for shot-creating actions, dribbles completed and touches, proving he is one of the best attacking players on the continent at the moment.

Not only that, Gakpo has been a headliner for the Netherlands in their World Cup campaign in Qatar so far, showing glimpses of his overwhelming talent and threat in front of goal on the international stage.

Over two appearances, the Dutch star, who could £43m, has scored two goals and completed 100% of his dribbles, as well as averaging two key passes, two clearances, one shot on target and 2.5 duels won per game, tallying up a 100% goal conversion which is extremely impressive.

Klopp could form a formidable attacking partnership between Gakpo and Nunez if Liverpool can secure a deal for the Dutch winger as his selfless approach and hard-working performances could offer the Liverpool striker numerous opportunities to convert goals for the Reds.

Indeed, Nunez has not been a poor signing for the Reds yet - having scored nine times in 18 matches - but that record will only get better alongside a player as vibrant as the PSV sensation.

With that being said, the addition of Gakpo would be a big coup for Liverpool but they will need to compete with elite clubs to acquire his services which won't be easy if the side fails to improve over the second half of the season and as a result, miss out on Champions League football.
